Indonesian Envoy Elected President Of UNCTAD's

London, Sept 17 (Antara) - Indonesian Ambassador Triyono Wibowo was elected President of the Trade and Development Board (TDB), United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), at the opening of the board`s 60th session in Geneva on Monday. Triyono was appointed president through acclamation, replacing Kazakhstan`s Permanent Representative to UN, WTO, and other international organizations in Geneva, Mukhtar Tileuberdi, soon after the opening of the session, said Muhsin Syihab, economic counselor to the Indonesian permanent representative in Geneva, in a statement to an Antara correspondent in London. Triyono`s appointment as TDB-UNCTAD president is indicative of international recognition and trust of Indonesia`s multilateral diplomacy, said Muhsin. Ambassador Triyono mentioned that this mandate is a matter of international trust and honor for Indonesia and reflects an accumulation of Indonesian diplomats` successes in addressing a wide range of global issues at international forums. Indonesia`s leadership position at various international forums was also a mandate of the constitution and a manifestation of the country`s free and active foreign policy, he said. He added that the Indonesian chairmanship of UNCTAD from September 2013 to September 2014 would have a strategic and historical meaning since the TDB president is required to make preparations for the 50th anniversary of UNCTAD, apart from performing routine duties. During his term as TDB President, Ambassador Triyono will lead the mid-term review of the results of the 13th UNCTAD conference held in Doha last year, which serve as a reference for the 14th UNCTAD conference to be held in Peru next year.
