Indonesian Released From Saudi Arabia Jail After Alleged Vandalism

Jakarta, March 5 (Antara) - An Indonesian woman, who was in police custody in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, for cutting the fabric covering the holy Ka`ba, was released, a press release from Indonesian Consulate General Office in Mecca stated on Wednesday. According to the statement, the Indonesian woman named Nur Jannah Amin Sadjo was visiting Mecca on a small hajj pilgrimage. On February 27, she prayed in front of the Ka`ba and allegedly cut the fabric that covers the Ka`ba using a small scissor. A suspicious woman police officer stopped her and arrested her. Police investigation stated that Nur Jannah had cut the fabric covering the Ka`ba, about 2cm wide. After the incident, the local authorities rushed to the Ka`ba and patched a new fabric to the part that was cut off. Nur Jannah is now temporarily put up at the Indonesian Consulate General Office in Mecca while waiting for her repatriation to Indonesia.
