SURABAYA, E Java, March 12 (Antara) - A fuel-efficient "Sapuangin" car, which is manufactured by the students of November 10th Institute of Technology (ITS) will compete at the Drivers World Championship (DWC) in London in July this year. "Sapuangin" had a spot to compete at DWC, because the car ranked as the first runner up in the previous Shell Eco-Marathon (SEM) Asia 2018 in Singapore, an official said in a written statement, Monday. During the SEM Asia, a competition organized by the Changi Exhibition Center on Sunday (March 11), the car of Indonesian students from Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta (Team Semar) has won the 2018 SEM ASIA competition, followed by the students of the Yogyakarta State University (UNY) (Team Garuda) on the second runner-up. The winner, along with the two runner ups, have received tickets to further compete with contenders from other regions at the grand final DWC in London. Rafi Rasyad, the Sapuangin's manager said thanks to the team work, the ITS students will represent Indonesia at the championship in London. During the SEM Asia, the top five of the fastest cars are originated from Indonesia. The fourth position has been secured by the Team Nogogeni from ITS, while the fifth place has been earned by the Team Bumi from the Indonesian University of Education (UPI). Muhammad Adietya, general manager of Team Nogogeni said he had accepted the result, and hoped to increase the car's performance in the upcoming competition. "Although we are not competing in the DWC London, the car has reached finish line, we are pleased to see this vehicle's performance," Adietya said. However, the team, Adietya noted, will continue to evaluate the car's performance.
