Indonesian Students In Germany Express Their View About Fauzi Bowo

London, Sept 17 (Antara) - The Indonesian Students Association (PPI) in Germany has sent an open letter to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, expressing its displeasure over the decision to appoint former Governor of Jakarta Fauzi Bowo as Ambassador to Germany. In a copy of the open letter received by ANTARA here on Tuesday, the students stated that Fauzi Bowo is not suitable to represent the Indonesian government in Germany due to his bad track record. According to them, Fauzi Bowo, during the election campaign for Jakarta`s Governor for the second term in 2012, was allegedly conducting black campaign against another candidate. In addition, during his term as Jakarta`s governor, from 2007-2012, Fauzi Bowo had failed to provide adequate security to the people of Jakarta. The students have termed Fauzi Bowo as incapable of maximising the Jakarta-Berlin Sister City cooperation (signed during his term) for the benefit of the people in Indonesia`s capital city. "The students' association sees the Indonesian Ambassador to Germany as an important and strategic position; hence, the job must be given to a person who is competent in diplomacy and dedicated to serving the people. We urge the Indonesian government to reconsider the candidacy of Dr Fauzi Bowo as the Ambassador to Germany," stated the letter. Earlier, there was speculation that Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Ministry will appoint new ambassadors to partner countries such as Germany, Japan, the United States, and the Vatican. Among the names mentioned was former Governor of Jakarta Fauzi Bowo, who is rumoured to be appointed as Ambassador to Germany. There has been no confirmation from the ministry with regard to the news.
