Indonesian Supreme Commander officially visits Thailand

BANGKOK, September 22 (TNA) - Indonesian Supreme Commander General Dr. Moeldoko is officially visiting Thailand as the guest of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, aimed to enhance relations between the Indonesian and Thai armed forces. Accompanied by his wife and entourage, the visiting Indonesian Supreme Commander was welcomed by his Thai counterpart General Tanasak Patimapragorn at the Royal Thai Armed Forces headquarters in Bangkok on Monday morning, when General Tanasak brought his Indonesian counterpart to inspect guards of honor. In their talks later, the Indonesian and Thai supreme commanders agreed to promote bilateral relations of Thai and Indonesian armed forces, as well as cooperation of armed forces of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) for regional security. The Indonesian supreme commander also confirmed close ties between Thai and Indonesian armed forces, expressing his hope that General Tanasak, who is also a Thai deputy prime minister and foreign minister, would also help further develop bilateral relations and cooperation between Jakarta and Bangkok in other fields and support the strength of ASEAN, in which both Indonesia and Thailand are member countries. Besides, the Indonesian supreme commander invited the retiring Thai supreme commander and General Worapong Sa-nganet, who will be the new Thai supreme commander as of October 1, 2014, to officially visit Indonesia to attend a ceremony to celebrate the Indonesian National Armed Forces Day on October 7. On the same occasion, the Thai armed forces chief attached badges representing special anti-international terrorism and parachuting capabilities for the Indonesian supreme commander and his delegation to show goodwill and sound ties between the armed forces of both countries. The visiting Indonesian supreme commander was also invited to a demonstration of anti-international terrorism personnel of Thailand. (TNA)
