Indonesian Vocal Group Wins Choir Competition In London

London, July 15 (Antara) - Indonesia`s Shantell Vocal Ensemble won the first prize in the Adult Folk Song Choir category and second prize in the Female Choir category at the Llanggolen International Musical Eisteddfod in England held on July 8-13. During the music competition, the vocal group performed traditional songs such as Lembe Lembe and Cik Cik Periuk accompanied by strong choreography created by Indonesian choreographer, Budi Susanto Yohanes, First Secretary to the Indonesian Embassy in London Hastin Aristya Bakti Dumadi stated here on Tuesday. Shantell Vocal Ensemble, led by Paulus Yoedianto, competed against various vocal groups from different countries such as Oregon repertoire Singers and Dreyfoos School of Art Singers from the United States, Merched Ros from England, and Mixed Choir from Estonia. Indonesian Deputy Ambassador to England Harry Kandou earlier remarked that he was proud to witness the Shantell vocal group winning the music competition in London. He also lauded the vocal group for performing Indonesian traditional songs along with choreography that mesmerized the audience. "Shantell Vocal Group`s participation in the music competition in London supports our efforts to increase ties with England, especially people-to-people contact," Harry emphasized. Llanggolen International Musical Eisteddfod has been held since 1947. Currently, it is considered as one of the biggest music competitions in the world. The competition aims to promote world peace through music and dance.
