Indonesians Expected To Maintain Diversity

Yogyakarta, C Java, Aug 18 (Antara) - Indonesian people are expected to maintain and manage diversity in their daily activities, Rector of Gadjah Mada University Pratikno stated. "We celebrate Indonesia`s 69 years of independence with joy. It is time for us to continue our life in the framework of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) and Pancasila," Pratikno noted here on Sunday. According to him, the independence of the Republic of Indonesia is a milestone in the realization of the ideals of the Indonesian nation`s sovereignty and prosperity. "Indonesia`s 69 years of independence has been achieved with the work hard of the predecessors of the nation. It is the duty of the next generation to continue to maintain the independence of the nation," Pratikno emphasized. Pratikno remarked that independence did not merely signify holding a flag ceremony, but also how to absorb, reflect, and implement the values of independence in daily life. "Unity in diversity is one of the values of Pancasila," he affirmed. He stated that the Gadjah Mada University was designed and set up for enshrining the principle of unity in diversity. Therefore, the new students are instilled with a spirit of unity that they are the children of Indonesia, rather than Java, Papua, or Batak. "Therefore, we always continuously make improvements and innovations, so that the Indonesian children can maintain and manage diversity in daily life," Pratikno added.
