Indonesia's Army Developing Anti-Tapping Technology

Jakarta, Nov 19 (Antara) - The Indonesian Army (TNI AD) in cooperation with the University of Surya is currently conducting research aimed at developing an anti-tapping device, an official revealed on Tuesday. "With the anti-tapping technology, at least no one can bug the Army," the Chief of Staff for Army General Budiman said. The device is also expected to help prevent Indonesian officials` phone calls from being intercepted, he added. However, the efforts to develop an anti-tapping technology are not a result of the recent wiretapping activities of Australia and the United States in Indonesia. "We commenced the research two months ago," Budiman stated. The Army and the University of Surya will also develop other military defense technologies, such as satellites, explosives, nano technology and vaccination. The total budget for technology development is estimated to be Rp35 billion. "There are 12 kinds of research being carried out jointly with the University of Surya," the official said. The university employs 200 doctors capable of conducting various kinds of research. Earlier, the Army had collaborated with Biofarma, PT Cyberworld Network Indonesia (CNI) and other research institutions for such initiatives.
