Instigator remanded in custody

Manama, Aug. 4 (BNA): The Acting Chief Prosecutor of the Capital Governorate, Mohammed Al Malki, has announced that the Lower Criminal Court today reviewed the case of an individual who was detained on charges relating to inciting non-compliance with Bahraini laws. The Acting Chief Prosecutor noted that the charges were filed against the defendant following a comprehensive investigation by the Public Prosecution into a complaint made by the Capital Governorate Police Directorate. The defendant is alleged to have incited non-compliance with Bahraini laws, in relation to assembly and protesting. The Acting Chief Prosecutor confirmed that the defendant had been afforded full legal rights throughout the investigation, as guaranteed by Bahrain’s constitution. He was questioned in the presence of his lawyers and provided with the opportunity to meet his legal team throughout. During today’s hearing, the defendant’s lawyers delivered a plea and defence statement to the court. Based on the evidence gathered by the Public Prosecution during its investigations and presented to the court today, the Public Prosecution called for the defendant to be convicted of all charges levelled against him. The Lower Criminal Court set the next trial date to 13 September 2015, with the defendant being remanded in custody.
