Intˈl Confab On Saeb-Tabrizi Poetry Planned

Tehran, May 5, IRNA – The first International Congress on Saeb-Tabrizi Poetry and Ethical Poetry will be held in June, according to the secretary of the congress. Organized by Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry, the event will seek to make the audience familiar with Saebˈs poetry and thoughts, Javad Mohammad-Zamani added. Promoting ethical values in view of religious teachings in Saebˈs poetry and highlighting ethical issues in literature are among other objectives of the event, he said. Topics for discussion during the congress include Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) lifestyle in Saebˈs poetry, ethical virtues and vices from Saebˈs point of view and review of Saebˈs successful poems in the field of morality, Mohammad-Zamani noted. Ṣaeb Tabrizi was born and educated in Isfahan and in about 1626/27 he traveled to India, where he was received into the court of Shah Jahan. He stayed for a time in Kabul and in Kashmir, returning home after several years abroad. His “Indian style” verses reveal an elegant wit, a gift for the aphorism and the proverb, and a keen appreciation of philosophical and intellectual exercise./end
