Int’l Chemistry Olympiad medallists commended

Hanoi, July 31 (VNA) - The Ministry of Education and Training has commended and presented its certificates of merit to all four Vietnamese students who won medals at the 46th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO). Speaking at a press conference in Hanoi on July 29, Deputy Minister Nguyen Vinh Hien congratulated the students on their achievements, adding that the good performance contributes to the country’s success at international Olympiads this year. The medallists should continue working harder to conquer pinnacle of science and become scientists in the future, contributing to national construction and development, Hien said. At this year’s IChO, Vietnamese students won two golds and two silvers. Two golds went to Pham Ngan Giang and Pham Mai Phuong both from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School. Phuong is among the top three performers at the event together with a student from Singapore and another from Ukraine. Doan Quoc Hoai Nam from Hue national high school in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue and Do Viet Hung from Tran Phu gifted high school in the northern city of Hai Phong brought home silvers. The competition, co-hosted by the University of Natural Sciences and the Hanoi National University of Education saw the participation of 291 students from 77 countries and territories worldwide. It selected winners of 28 golds, 63 silvers, 92 bronzes and 10 consolation prizes.-VNA
