INT’L SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE ON KHALKH RIVER BATTLE RUNS

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ An international scientific conference titled “Historical research into Khalkh River Battles: Present” ran last weekend in the “Agreement” hall, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Organized by the Scientific Institute of Defense since 1989 every year, the conference was attended this time by scholars of Mongolia, Russia and Japan who to share views on the battles. It also attracted scientists from Mongolian universities, institutes, the Institute of Mongol, Buddhism and Tibetan Studies at Russia’s Academy of Sciences, a research division of the Kharbin Institute of Social Sciences of China, and Japan’s National Defense Institute. The gathered were given reports themed “The historical research into Khalkh River Battle”, “Khalkh River in historical dignity of Mongolians”, “Interests of Japan in People’s Republic of Mongolia (1925-1931)”, “Serious conflicts of Nomon Khan, military rules of Soviet Union and Japan”, “Research issues on the military cooperation between Mongolia and Soviet Union in 1936-1940”, “Experiences of Soviet Union and Mongolia at Khalkh River Battles, their lessons”, “Khalkh River Battle and Economy of Mongolia”, “Opportunities of giving patriotic education to students through subject of Mongolian history” and others. These reports gave important views and information about outcomes of the research. The participants also shared views on a present situation and tendencies of the research and touched upon issues regarding historical individuals who have not been researched well.
