Int’l Scientists Among 28th KIA Jury

Tehran, Sept 16, IRNA - Distinguished international scientists are among the jury of the 28th Khwarizmi International Award (KIA), said an Iranian official. Dr. Ahmad Akbari, the president of Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology (IROST), added that the festival will be held in February 2015, said Tuesday's edition of the English-language paper 'Iran Daily'. The festival is held annually in Iran and aims to recognize outstanding scientific achievements made by researchers, inventors and innovators from all over the world. Researchers should present their research works in one of the following categories: applied research, research & development, fundamental research, and invention & innovation. They can compete in the fields of aerospace, agriculture, basic sciences, biotechnology, all fields of engineering, information technology, material sciences, mechatronics, medical sciences, nanotechnology and renewable energy. In 1987, IROST, which is affiliated to the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, decided to establish an award that acknowledges outstanding Iranian achievements in the fields of science and technology. IROST proposed the creation of Khwarizmi Award in memory of Abu Jafar Mohammad ibn Mousa Khwarizmi, the great Iranian mathematician and astronomer (770-840 CE). The First Khwarizmi Award in 1987 called for Iranian nationals to present their outstanding inventions or innovations.
