Intellectual Property and Innovation Workshop Concluded

Doha, April 28 (QNA) - ''Intellectual Property and Innovation Workshop'', organized by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce in cooperation with the Patent Office of the GCC Secretariat, concluded here Monday. Intellectual Property experts in the Patent Office of the GCC Secretariat participated in the workshop in addition to a representative of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), Directors of intellectual property offices in the GCC States, universities, research centres, invention and innovation support centres as well as those concerned from the industrial sector and businessmen. Activities of the final day included a visual presentation by the WIPO representative Patricia DePaola, on the best international practices in the field of intellectual property rights protection and the WIPO's role in establishing the rules regulating intellectual property rights such as patent and copyright. Speakers addressed the mechanisms and procedures since the generation of the idea, through to the marketing, management of intellectual property and licensing in the transfer of new ideas to the market, as well as the importance of intellectual property and innovation in entrepreneurship and market development. They also talked about the litigation on intellectual property rights in the Gulf states, in addition to the role of intellectual capital in institution-building and its impact on sustainable development. Sessions were followed by a review of a live experience of entrepreneurs from the State of Qatar. At the conclusion of the workshop a number of inventors in addition to members of the GCC Patent Office Cooperation Council, were honored. The Intellectual Property in Innovation Workshop, came in the framework the State of Qatar's marking of the World Intellectual Property Day this year. (QNA)
