Intelligent traffic information center opened in Bangkok

BANGKOK, June 15 (TNA) - The Intelligent Traffic Information Center Foundation (iTIC) has opened its traffic information center and launched traffic-monitoring services for public interest. While opening the new traffic information center on June 14, iTIC Chairman Ninnart Chaithirapinyo said that his foundation had spent six years on developing an advance traffic information system which now allows users to effectively plan their trips and avoid traffic congestion. Ninnart noted that the advance traffic information system gathers information from surveillance cameras at more than 500 locations installed by the Highways Department, the Rural Roads Department, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, traffic police and private agencies. Ninnart explained that the newly-developed system can inform users of real-time traffic conditions, road repair, flooding and rallies; so, motorists can use their computers or handheld smart devices to monitor traffic conditions via www.iticfoundation.org or an application of iTIC. According to the iTIC chair, traffic conditions are showed in the system with green, yellow and red lines and other understandable symbols. The iTIC chair stressed that staff will be studying new technologies to further upgrade the center's services in the future. The traffic information center is located at the Engineering Centennial Memorial Building of the Faculty of Engineering in Bangkok-based Chulalongkorn University.(TNA)
