International Day of Midwife Marked

Pyongyang, May 26 (KCNA) -- An event took place at the People's Palace of Culture on Wednesday to mark the International Day of the Midwife 2016. Present there were officials in the field of public health, those of ministries and national institutions and media and members of international bodies here including the representative of the United Nations Population Fund, the chief of the Office of the UNPF, foreign diplomatic envoys and their embassy officials here. Speakers recalled that the International Midwives Federation proposed "Women and Newborns: The Heart of Midwifery" as the theme of this year, adding that the midwives' responsible role is essential for protecting the lives and health of pregnant women and babies and promoting their well-being. They stressed the need to positively increase the ranks of midwives in different countries and called upon midwives to provide responsible healthcare, focusing efforts on the lives and health of pregnant women and babies.
