International Holocaust Memorial Day observed

BANGKOK, Jan 27 (TNA) - The Israeli embassy in Thailand and United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) has organised the International Holocaust Memorial Day on Friday at UNCC, United Nations Building. Among those attending the event were Israeli ambassador to Thailand Meir Shlomo, German ambassador to Thailand Peter Prugel and Sophon Napathorn, Thai vice minister for education. Israeli ambassador Shlomo said in his speech during the event that the world community should learn the lesson from the history and to also opposed hatred and every kind of violence inflicted on mankind. Meanwhile, Mr. Prugel stressed Germany’s pledge to fight against hatred, racist discrimination and to also prevent the tragedy from reoccurring in future. January 27 marks the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration camp in Europe. The U.N. designated January 27 of every year as the International Holocaust Memorial Day to commemorate the innocent victims of the Holocaust, six million Jews and other victims who perished in the Nazi camps during World War II.
