International runners join Chiang Mai marathon

CHIANG MAI, Dec 18 (TNA) - Some 12,000 runners from 53 countries on Sunday joined in the ‘Muang Thai Chiang Mai Marathon 2016’ as the northern city of Chiang Mai celebrates 720th year anniversary. The race runners were welcomed by Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul and the provincial governor at the renowned Tha Pae Gate. Proceeds from the race will go to charitable organisations. Mrs.Kobkarn said Chiang Mai has tourism potential to welcome tourists to see both natural and cultural attractions.It is also an ideal place to organise sport tourism activities and can be developed to become a sport destination if the state and private sectors work together.
