Int'l envoys satisfied with Thailand's security measures

BANGKOK, September 24 (TNA) - Envoys from 56 countries and seven international organisations have expressed their satisfaction with stepped-up security measures implemented by Thai security officers, following a deadly blast in central Bangkok last month. Thai Foreign Ministry Spokesman Sek Wannamethee and Royal Thai Police Spokesan Police Lieutenant General Prawut Thawornsiri on Wednesday invited the international envoys, including two ambassadors, for a briefing on updates of the bomb attack in front of the Erawan Shrine at the Ratchaprasong Intersection on August 17, which killed 20 victims and wounded about 130 others, most of whom are foreigners. The foreign ministry spokesman, who is also Director-General of the ministry's Department of Information, told journalists that, during the over half-an-hour briefing, the international envoys were satisfied with security measures provided to international visitors to Thailand. The police spokesman, in the meantime, reported that Malaysian police informed they have detained eight suspects in the August 17 deadly bombing in Bangkok, half of them are Uighurs, while Thai authorities will request for more information from Malaysia. The police spokesman revealed that all suspects who have been arrested and detained will be sent for a civilian court trial, except those charged with possessing arms and weapons who will stand trial in a military court.
