Int'l Kite Festival set in Thai South

BANGKOK, March 3 (TNA) - The 35th International Kite Festival will be held in Satun Province in the Thai South from March 6-8, 2015, in which over 37 global kite performers will participate. Satun Governor Dejrat Simsiri told journalists on Tuesday that the 35th International Kite Festival, the largest of its kind in Thailand, will be organised at Satun's Air Force Base, aimed partly to honour Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on the auspicious occasion of the revered Princess's 60th birthday anniversary on April 2, 2015. The governor said the three-day international kite festival will gather more than 37 kite performers from around the world, while international visitors will enjoy a kite competition in which the winners will receive royal trophies of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. According to the governor, highlights of the upcoming international kite festival include a kite parade and a flying of a large royally-symbolic kite in honour of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Siridhorn, as well as a flying of a Buffalo Head Kite, developed from local wisdom with a sound similar to that of a buffalo when flying. Besides, international visitors will enjoy the "Shop, Taste, Chill" activity, in which rare local products, an Andaman food festival and a variety of entertainment, including the Miss Satun Pageant Contest, cultural shows and music concerts performed by famous artists. The Satun governor anticipated that about 10 million baht should be changed hands during the upcoming international kite festival. (TNA)
