Investigators gather evidence after violent incidents in Narathiwat

NARATHIWAT, Dec 26 (TNA) – Security authorities inspected four locations of violent incidents in the southern province of Narathiwat last night. The officials including bomb experts were trying to find clues leading to culprits who were behind the arson, gunfire at a checkpoint and road blockage with burning tyres and felled trees in Sungai Padi district last night. One spot was at a mobile phone relay station in To Deng sub-district. Fire continued to burn this morning and officials put it out. They found that tyres were placed at the base of the station’s antenna mast. The fire stopped signal transmission. The second location was at the Chatwarin checkpoint at a bypass intersection leading the Chatwarin waterfall. Bullets hit its bunker and a grenade fell near it. About 30 spent M16 cartridges were found about 200 metres away. At the third and the fourth locations, tyres were burnt and trees were felled on a bypass in Ban Ai Batu village and Jarusathien Road. Authorities believed three groups of suspected insurgents launched the attacks simultaneously. (TNA)
