Investors seeking privileges Thailand peak in Sept

BANGKOK, October 12 (TNA) - Investors seeking promotional privileges from Thailand’s Board of Investment in September stood at 158 projects with combined value 176.3 billion baht, highest in terms of number of projects and value since the beginning of 2014, said Udom Wongviwatchai, secretary-general of BoI. Total investment on projects that received BoI privileges during the first nine months this year stood at 592 billion baht. Udom said signs of investment in Thailand have been on the positive and this could be seen from the sharp increase in the number of projects and value seeking promotional privileges in September. The sharp increase in September was attributed to investors applying on five projects concerning electricity production from natural gas with combined value of 135 billion baht, he said. It shows that investors are keen in investing in energy, one of the industry targets of BoI and it also shows that investors have regained confidence in the country, said Udom. If positive investment directions continue, it is projected that value of investment seeking privileges in Thailand this year may exceed the target at 700 billion baht, he added. (TNA)
