IOM Boosts Its Operations In Southern And Central Iraq To Cover The Growing Number Of Displaced

BAGHDAD / NINA / The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced strengthening its operations in southern and central Iraq to cover the growing number of displaced people because of the violence, pointing out "there are more cases of influx of displaced people into the provinces of Diyala, Wasit, Qadisiyah and Babil." The media spokeswoman of the organization, Christiana Bertyum said in a press statement that "the new wave of displacement taking place in Iraq now is the result of a variety of reasons, but the manifestations are obvious, such as the displaced people live in mosques, schools, public parks and other places." She added, according to the statement, "The organization is coordinating with the Baghdad Provincial Council and the emergency cell created by the Iraqi government to identify families coming from the provinces of Nineveh, Kirkuk, Salahuddin and Diyala," indicating that "the city of Basra hosted a number of Christian families displaced from Mosul, sponsored by the emergency teams specialized in humanitarian cases. " She confirmed "the existence of more influx cases of displaced people into Diyala, Wasit, Qadisiyah and Babil followed up by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to monitor the movements of displaced and their data collection to assess the situation and act in proportion to the situation on the ground" ./ end
