Iran’s “Sinbad” playing adventure at French festival

TEHRAN,Sept.22(MNA) – Iranian theater troupe Darvak will be staging the puppet show “Sinbad” at the 17th Charleville-Mezieres International Puppet Theater Festival, which opened in France on Friday. Fatemeh Suzangar and Mohammad Babaii will direct the show, which will be performed with paper puppets. The show tells the story of Sinbad. While searching for his beloved girl, Sinbad enters a temple protected by a sphinx who accuses him of being a thief. Traditional Iranian music will also be heard in the background. The show is an adaptation of “Sinbad the Sailor”, a fictional sailor and the hero of a story-cycle of Middle Eastern origin who hails from Basra in Iraq during the Abbasid Caliphate (750 to 1258). The ten-day festival showcases cultures and traditions from all places and times. This year 90 plays from different countries are taking part in the festival.
