Iran, Egypt, Turkey stress continuation of talks

Cairo, Sept 18, IRNA – Foreign ministers of Iran, Egypt and Turkey stressed continuation of talks to work out a solution to Syrian crisis. Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, his Egyptian counterpart Mohammed Kamel Amrou and Turkey’s Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu called for the issue following their tripartite talks on Monday evening. During a joint press conference after the talks which was held in the absence of the Saudi Arabian envoy, they underlined the importance of finding a way out of the present critical situation in Syria. Salehi said that the talks will continue at the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York. He also believed that the present crisis in Syria demands patience and vigilance in order to find a logical and sensible solution. Asked about Iran’s positions on Bahrain and Syria developments, Salehi said Tehran has always underscored the need to meet public demands. He said Iran believes that the Syrian crisis will be settled only through a thoroughly Syrian solution. Salehi arrived here on Monday to take part in a quadripartite meeting of Iran, Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia on Syrian crisis. However, according to the Egyptian foreign minister in the joint press conference, the Saudi Arabian envoy did not participate in the talks for certain reasons. Salehi is also to meet with Egyptian President Mohammed Mursi. During the tripartite talks, Salehi offered Iran’s proposed roadmap for Syria crisis. He proposed cessation of clashes and violence simultaneously by the belligerent parties in Syria, peaceful settlement of crisis without foreign intervention, and halting any kind of financial, military and educational support for Syrian dissidents. President Mursi had proposed hosting the gathering in a meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation in Mecca to find peaceful solution to Syrian crisis.
