Iran, Eurasia Economic Union to sign cooperation agreement: Envoy

Moscow, Feb 4, IRNA – Iran’s Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei announced that Iran and Eurasia Economic Union are to sign cooperation agreement next year. On his blog at the Russian social system “Life Journal”, Sanaei wrote that Ministry of Industry and Trade of Iran has already started talks with Eurasia Economic Union and the Customs Union for the reduction of customs tariffs between the two countries. It is expected that te cooperation agreement will be signed between the two sides next year, he said. Stressing that Russia has no customs facilitation agreement with countries except for the CIS, he said at present the only way to use low export tariffs to Russia is sending the commodities to intermediate countries such as Armenia, Kazakhstan and the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Eurasian Economic Union is composed of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Armenia. Kyrgyzstan has signed the agreement to join the Union which will become operational in May after approval of the parliament in the country and taking official procedures. Sanaei also referred to the signing of a new consular agreement between Iran and Russia in 2016 and added that it will largely facilitate visa formalities for employers, tradesmen and tourists. Commenting over problems of transferring money between Iran and Russia through banking system, the ambassador said with the efforts made by the Central Bank of Iran the problem has been solved. He also referred to his meeting with a group of Iranian producers in Moscow in which he had informed them of the measures taken for facilitation of economic cooperation between Iran and Russia.
