Iran FM Expresses Condolences To China On Deadly Quake

Tehran, April 21, IRNA – Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi has offered his condolences to the Chinese government and nation over the recent strong earthquake that hit the southwest Chinaˈs Sichuan Province on Sunday. Salehi expressed his deep condolences in a message to his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi. He also voiced the Islamic Republic of Iranˈs readiness to render assistance to the earthquake-hit region upon receiving demand from the Chinese officials. According to the latest information released by the Chinese Earthquake Administration, the 7.0 magnitude temblor, which hit Sichuan province on Saturday, has left at least 160 people dead and more than 6700 injured. The worst Chinaˈs earthquake in recent years happened on May 12, 2008, when an earthquake in Sichuan killed about 70,000 people and left at least 4.8 million people homeless. The 8-magnitude Sichuan earthquake was the deadliest to strike China since the 1976 Tangshan quake, which had a death toll of 240,000./end
