Iran, Georgia discuss bilat, regional ties

Baku, March 17, IRNA – Iran-Georgia parliamentary friendship group at the Iranian Parliament chaired by Ahmad Ali Reza Beigi reviewed bilateral and regional issues with Georgian senior officials . According to Iran diplomatic mission in Georgia, Iranian delegation held a meeting with Chairperson of the Parliament of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze, Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani, Minister of Finance Ivane Matchavariani, deputy ministers of economy, judiciary and agriculture and some other officials. During the meetings, both sides discussed developing parliamentary cooperation, promoting Iran-Georgia ties in political, economic, trade, scientific, cultural, consular and regional issues. The Iranian side underlined the importance of preserving relations, urging the Georgian officials to solve Iranian nationals' problems in Georgia. Meanwhile, the Georgian side stressed the role of parliamentary friendship group in developing bilateral relations, holding talks and removing some obstacles. The Georgian officials also called for reinforcing parliamentary ties between Iran and Georgia. Earlier in a meeting with Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani, Beigi hailed cultural commonalities and long-standing ties between the two countries, saying that the two countries boast of historic affinity and ancient interaction and strengthening bilateral ties is rooted in the history of the two nations. Describing role of the parliaments in promoting ties as significant, he said that boosting the level of cooperation will help promote friendly exchanges in various fields.
