Iran interested in signing convention on Caspian Sea’s legal status - Russian upper house speaker

TEHERAN, November 14. /TASS/. Iran is interested in signing a convention of the legal status of the Caspian Sea by the next summit of the leaders of the Caspian littoral states, Valentina Matviyenko, the speaker of Russia’s Federation Council upper parliament house, said on Monday after talks with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. "As concerns the convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea, which is about to be finally agreed, some details are yet to be clarified," she said. "In any case, Iran has confirmed its commitment to have this agreement signed in 2017, by the next summit of the leaders of the Caspian littoral states." Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said he doesn’t rule out the convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea could be signed in the first half of 2017. Read more
