Iran-Japan navies to begin cooperation

Kuala Lumpur, Dec 10, IRNA – Iranˈs Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari and Chief of Staff of Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force Admiral Katsutoshi Kawano called for re-establishment of relations between the two forces. The two commanders met in Jakarta, capital of Indonesia, on the sidelines of the international meeting of Naval Security. In the meeting, the two sides, given old background of naval ties between Iran and Japan, called for re-establishment of relations between the two forces. Exchanging students, and naval security of northern Indian Ocean and Hormuz Strait were among the most important issues discussed in the meeting. Rear Admiral Sayyari expressed Iranˈs readiness to re-establish ties with Japanese Navy and it was decided that discussed issues be followed up by military attachés of the two countries. Sayyari also underlined establishment of peace and security in Hormuz Strait, Oman Sea and northern Indian Ocean. The Japanese admiral also underlined security of the aforementioned areas and other strategic straits in the region.
