Iran Navy: Indigenous sub to join fleet within days

Tehran, Feb 13, IRNA – A domestically-developed submarine will join Iran's navy fleet in a ceremony attended by President Hassan Rouhani within days, Commander of the Islamic Republic Navy Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi said on Wednesday. Khanzadi made the remarks in a local gathering in the Iranian capital, Tehran. The indigenous 527-ton Fateh (Conqueror) submarine is among semi-heavy submarines in Iran. It can operate in more than 200 meters below the sea surface which it could be increased to 250 meters for 35 days. Fateh submarine has underwater speed of 11 knots (20.35 km/h) and is capable of travelling submerged at 14 knots (25.9km/h ). The submarine is armed with four 533 mm torpedoes.
