Tehran, Oct 17, IRNA – Iran will nominate a city for the capital of the best environmentally-friendly Islamic city that will be adopted by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in line with efforts on protecting environment, an Iranian official said Wednesday. 'At the 39th forum of the ISESCO in Morocco, it was agreed by the member states to choose a city from amongst the 57 member states of the organization to designate as the capital of environment and sustainable development of the ISESCO, said Gholam-Reza Karimi Head of the International Affairs Department of Iran's Ministry of Education. He also said that the members should prepare 20-page reports on the efforts done for protecting environment, waste management, and soil sustainable management in the candidate city. The capital will be adopted by ISESCO on the basis of the report, he said, adding that Iran is also considering the same specifications for nominating a city with the aim of raising public awareness on environmental issues. ISESCO was founded by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in May 1979. It has called on member states to adhere to take necessary measures for making their cities environmentally friendly and in line with the best international practices in this field.
