Iran nuclear deal participants to meet on UNGA sidelines

Moscow, Sept 17, IRNA – Participants of the nuclear deal with Iran (Russia, China, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Iran) will hold a ministerial meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 24, a diplomatic source in the organization told TASS. 'The meeting was scheduled for September 24,' the source said. 'It will also be attended by the European Union foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini.' The sides are expected to discuss ways to preserve the nuclear deal after the US unilateral withdrawal and the reintroduction of the US sanctions against Iran. In 2015, Iran and six major powers (five member states of the United Nations Security Council - Russia, the United States, France, the United Kingdom and China - and Germany) agreed on the final Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which particularly stipulated the removal of sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear program. On May 8, the US President Donald Trump announced Washington’s withdrawal from the deal.
