Iran plays undeniable role in Syria peace talks: UN official

New York, Feb 15, IRNA - United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson said here on Saturday that Iran plays an undeniable and pivotal role in Syrian peace negotiations. In an exclusive interview with IRNA, Eliasson underlined that, both, the UN and global community need a constructive approach to settle the Syrian crisis. ˈWe are well aware of Iran’s vital and sensitive role in settlement of crisis in Syria and across the globe,ˈ he added. UN believes that Iran’s participation in the next round of negotiation on Syria is very essential, he said. Referring to Iran as an influential country, Eliasson asserted that the global community is well aware of Tehranˈs influence and capacities to resolve the Syrian crisis. He also expressed hope that the Iranian official would voice their willingness to attend the upcoming conference on Syria.
