Iran Produces 2m Tons Of Glass Slates Annually

Qazvin, Nov 20, IRNA – Iran produces two million tons of glass sheets in various sizes and colors a year, said secretary of State Glass Manufacturers Guild Association. Addressing a seminar to review the road map for the glass industry, Hossein Zojaji said that Iran's glass industry is no longer in traditional style and boasts of the capacity to turn into an advanced industry. Although more than 95 percent of the country's glass sheets is produced by the private sector, the industry enjoys a four-percent increase each year, he said. Zojaji put the ratio of Iran's glass production to global production at 2.5 percent and the value of exports at over $100 million. He noted that the industry has provided 40,000 people with job opportunities directly and indirectly. Meanwhile, Qazvin Governor General Ahmad Ajam told the seminar that although the idea to transform the knowledge into technology existed in the country over the past several years, the idea was materialized during the ninth and tenth government tenures./end
