Iran to resume polio serum production

Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec.17 By Fatih Karimov - Trend: "Iran will resume polio serum production as of March as the ban on importing monkeys has been lifted", ISNA quoted Ashraf Mohammadi, an official at Iran's Razi serum production institute, as saying on Dec. 17. The country will be able to produce 20-50 million serums per year, she added. In recent months, Iran has been faced with a deficit of monkeys to be used for carrying on tests related to the production of polio serums. It was impossible to send samples of produced serums abroad to be tested due to the international sanctions, Mohammadi said. According to the World Health Organization, no cases of polio have been reported in Iran during the past ten years. Follow us on Twitter @TRENDNewsAgency
