Iran Sympathizes With Victims Of Kashmir Flood

Tehran, Sept 25, IRNA – Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham on Thursday offered sympathy to the families of victims of the recent devastating flood in Kashmir. She voiced Tehran's readiness to send humanitarian aid to the flood-hit areas in the Indian-controlled Kashmir which was affected by what is reported to be the most ferocious flood in a century. Since Sept 7, Indian-administered Kashmir has been dealing with the faral flood with nearly 250 people dead and 600,000 stranded when a sizzling summer turned into a disaster overnight. Afkham said Iran is ready to immediately dispatch necessary items including foodstuff and medical aid to the flood-stricken areas. India and Pakistan have fought two wars over Kashmir since their independence from British colonial rule in 1947. The archrivals lay claim over the whole region but control parts of it. Most parts of Kashmir is controlled by India while its western parts are under Islamabad's control.
