Iran, Tajikistan discuss bilateral issues

Tehran, June 1, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Tajik counterpart Sirodjidin Muhriddin reviewed bilateral ties in Tehran on Saturday. Earlier in a meeting with Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian, Muhriddin called for reinforcing cooperation between Iranian and Tajik state and private sectors. The 13th joint economic commission will convene in Tehran in the next few months, he added. Tehran-Dushanbe relations have been growing since the beginning of Tajikistan's independence in 1991, the recognition of Tajikistan's independence by Iran as the first country in the world proves this claim. During the unrest in Tajikistan in 1992-1997, Iran took peace initiatives and hosted several rounds of Tajik peace talks to help drive the friendly country to national solidarity. Iran's presence in Tajikistan's reconstruction, and economic sector helped strengthen the close ties between the two countries. Follow us on Twitter @IrnaEnglish
