Iran-Tajikistan To Intensify Joint Anti-drug Campaign : Minister

Tehran, Feb 6, IRNA – Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said on Tuesday that Iran and Tajikistan will promote their cooperation in the field of anti-drug campaign. Najjar, also secretary general of Drug Control Headquarters, added on the sidelines of a meeting with the head of Tajik National Agency for Drug Fighting that Iran and Tajikistan as two brotherly and friendly states have cultural bonds and extensive cooperation in various fields. Both countries are neighbors of Afghanistan as the biggest producer of opium in the world, he said, noting that since they are located on narcotics transit route, they both risk incurring damage. Najjar also said that cultivation of poppy seeds in Afghanistan has increased following NATO forcesˈ presence in the country. Experience has it that extra-regional forces will never be able to solve regional problems; rather regional cooperation is the only solution to them, he said. The minister also said that Iran has acquired good experience in the various fields of anti-drug campaign and is ready to make them available to its friendly country of Tajikistan./end
