Iran urges removal of restrictions on transfer of peaceful nuclear equipment

New York, May 6, IRNA – Iran’s Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Reza Najafi called for removal of all restrictions and discriminatory attitudes on transfer of nuclear material and equipment which are for peaceful purposes. Najafi made the remarks during the Preparatory Committee for the 2015 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference underway April 28-May 9, 2014 in New York. He pointed out that full materialization of the inalienable rights of member states in gaining access to the nuclear energy for peaceful purposes is a fundamental objective of the Non-Proliferation Treaty. He said it was vital to devise necessary methods for absolute commitment and full respect of all world countries including the developed ones to ways to facilitate transfer of nuclear material, equipment and technology for peaceful purposes. The Iranian diplomat strongly dismissed imposing of any kind of restrictions on transfer of nuclear equipment to the developing countries on the pretext that it is a sensitive issue. He said such practices have violated the very essence of the NPT and should be stopped. end
