Iran Welcomes UN-Syria Deal To Supply Humanitarian Aid To Homs

Tehran, Feb 10, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham on Sunday expressed pleasure with the agreement reached between the Syrian government and UN resident envoy for the exit of non-military forces from certain areas of Homs and dispatch humanitarian aid to the area. According to Foreign Ministryˈs Media Diplomacy Department, she added that Iran believes that the move can help improve humanitarian situation in the area and strip those of attempts to politicize the issue. ˈIran considers the measure taken by Syria as a sign its goodwill to strive for the betterment of the civilians in the region,ˈ he said. Afkham said that the Islamic Republic of Iran believes that if economic sanctions against the Syrians must be lifted and the main obstacle to provide food and medical supplies to those trapped between the terrorists and the government troops be removed. She hoped for improved humanitarian situation of the Syrian people at the earliest. She said that providing the Syrian people with humanitarian supplies must be accelerated in an ambiance free of politicking with understanding. Afkham said that Iran-Switzerland-Syria trilateral meeting, third round of which was held in Tehran last week, adopted impartial and humanitarian approach to that end./end
