Iran well prepared for Asian Youth Para Games – Iranian official

TEHRAN,Oct.14(MNA) -- General Secretary of Iran’s National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Amir Mandegarfard said on Sunday that the Iranian delegation is fully prepared for the Asian Youth Para Games (AYPG) Malaysia 2013. AYPG Malaysia 2013 will be held in Kuala Lumpur from 26 to 30 October with the participation of more than 2,000 athletes from 41 Asian nations. The first edition of the Games was held in Hong Kong in 2003, followed by Tokyo, Japan in 2009. “We will be participating in the games with the purpose of claiming more medals than the previous edition. Iran finished in the second place at the previous edition and we will try our best to keep our place in the upcoming event”. “Asian Youth Para Games is s good opportunity to find our talents for the important events such as the 2014 Incheon Asian Games and the 2016 Paralympic Games,” he added. “The Iranian delegation will take part in the Asian Youth Para Games under the name of 'Ghadir'. We will participate with 74 athletes in nine events, namely sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, table tennis, athletic, buccia, powerlifting, goalball, judo and swimming,” Mandegarfard declared. AYPG Malaysia 2013, carrying the theme “Where Passion Grows, Dreams Fulfilled, Friendships Strengthened,” has already set a new benchmark as 14 sports will be contested this time around, compared to only five sports in the last Games in Tokyo in 2009. Among the notable countries expected to send strong contingents for the Games include world China, Japan, Korea and Iran.
