Iran wishes to cooperate with Indonesia to address Islamic subjects

Jakarta, July 30 (Antara) -- Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia Valiollah Mohammadi has offered to establish cooperation with the Indonesian government to form a team to discuss issues related to Islam in the two countries. According to Dewi Fortuna Anwar, the senior adviser to the vice president, Mohammadi met with Vice President Jusuf Kalla on Thursday to discuss the formation of the team, among other subjects. "Mohammadi expressed his wish to Kalla on the establishment of a joint team between Indonesia and Iran that can discuss issues, especially terrorism, which frequently concerns Muslims," Anwar said at the Vice Presidential Office on Thursday. The Iranian ambassador wants to establish a joint team comprising scholars from Indonesia and Iran to deliberate over matters related to the existence of Muslims in the two countries. However, Vice President Kalla asserted that the government of Indonesia wanted to build cooperation with all Muslim counties in the world, not with Iran alone. "Indonesia wants to promote moderate Islam, which does not justify violence, terrorism, or other aspects that lead to conflicts within the Muslim community," Anwar remarked. She further noted Mohammadi met with Kalla to discuss plans to establish cooperation between the two nations in the fields of economy, nuclear technology, and banking.
