Iranian artworks break records at Dubai Christie’s October auction

TEHRAN,Nov.3(MNA) -- Iranian artworks broke records on the second night of Dubai Christie’s auction of Modern and Contemporary Arab, Iranian and Turkish Art on Wednesday. Iran’s Deputy Culture Minister for Artistic Affairs Ali Moradkhani, and culture minister advisor Morteza Kazemi attended the first and second night sale in the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel in Dubai where the auction took place. Farhad Moshiri’s “842L1” oil on canvas was the highest priced lot that sold on the second night at $173,000, and Afshin Pirhashemi’s “Recrudescence” came in next with $106,000. Hossein Zendehrudi and Marwan from Syria shared fourth place in the auction with their artworks selling at $106,000 each. Parviz Tanavoli, whose six foot tall sculpture “Oh Persepolis II” fetched $940,000 on the first night, came in fifth with his “Heech” which sold at $102,000. Out of the 32 artworks by Iranian artists, 28 works were sold during the two night sale. Parvaneh Etemadi, Faramarz Pilaram, Abbas Kiarostami, Bahman Jalali, Bita Fayyazi, Ramin Shirdel, Roya Akhavan and Ali Shirazi were other Iranian artists whose works went under the hammer at the auction. Christie’s part III online-only sale runs until November 11.
