Iranian author Ali Shojaei to attend Berlin literature festival

TEHRAN,Aug.26(MNA) -- Iranian author Ali Shojaei will be taking his three books to the Berlin International Literature Festival, where a selection of contemporary authors from all over the world will be presenting their prose and poetry. Shojaei’s three books “The Big Snowman”, “1.5 Kilos of Horn” and his collection of twelve short stories have been selected to be read during the book-reading section of the festival which runs from September 4 to 15. All texts are read in their original language. However, interpreters translate the pieces into German. Illustrated by Elaheh Taherian, “The Big Snowman” is in Persian and German. Nazli Hodaii translated the book into German and the Baobab Books published it. The book, originally entitled “What if the Snowman Won’t Melt?” tells the story of a big snowman built by village children. However, the snowman, rather than being grateful to the villagers for creating him, instead demands guards and ice cubes since he doesn’t want to melt, and this creates problems for the people. His other book “1.5 Kilos of Horn” has been inspired by old Iranian legends, and is illustrated by Alireza Golduzian. Since 2001, the International Literature Festival takes place every year in September in Berlin. It focuses on the development of international prose and lyric poetry. New talents will also be given a place alongside established figures of world literature. More than 100 authors from over 50 countries participate in 200 events over twelve days, allowing audiences insights into their work.
