Iranian Film praised in Venice Film Festival

TEHRAN, Sept.1 (MNA) – “Melbourne” directed by Nima Javidi received positive reviews in Venice Film Festival. Nima Javidi, a young Iranian director, had his film recently screened in Venice Film Festival, Italy. The critics praised the film and believed that “Melbourne” has managed to create a Hichcockian mood. Javidi, who watched his film together with other spectators at the festival, stated: “When I arrived in Italy, the film had already been shown to reporters and the press, and they expressed positive feedback about it. I interviewed with a few foreign presses and had several interviews with the radio and television in Italy.” “Something interesting that a large number of foreign critics told me was that my film has a Hichcockian mood,” remarked Javidi, “Iranian critics, however, were of a different opinion. Another topic that was frequently brought up was how I managed to narrate such a story in such a limited location.” “The complex and numerous relationships between the characters was another interesting topic for the critics,” stated Javidi and added that “apparently, they don’t have such relationships in their own lives as deep and numerous as the characters in Melbourne.” Coinciding with the Venice Film Festival, "Micro Film" Inc. bought the rights to globally distribute the film. Micro Film is a world-renowned distributor and plans to distribute the film in Italy first. Melbourne, written and directed by Nima Javidi, is his debut feature film with a social theme. It has been produced by Javad Norouzbeigi and features Mani Haghighi, Peiman Maadi, and Negar Javaherian as its main cast.
