Iranian FM ends Singapore visit after ASEAN meeting

Kuala Lumpur, Aug 4, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif left Singapore for Tehran on Saturday after attending the 51st session of the ten-nation Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Iran's foreign minister arrived in Singapore on Wednesday for a three-day visit to participate in the ASEAN meeting which was held on August 2. During his stay in Singapore, Zarif signed a document on Iran's joining the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) at the annual gathering of ASEAN’s foreign ministers on Thursday. While in Singapore, he held meetings with foreign ministers of Russia, New Zealand Australia, Japan, China and Singapore High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, President of Singapore Halimah Yacob and Secretary General of ASEAN Le Luong Minh. Prior to his visit to Singapore, Zarif made a one-day trip to Sri Lanka where he held talks with the high-ranking officials of the South Asian country, including Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena.
