Iranian-Indian fusion concert DVD set for summer release

TEHRAN,June 2(MNA)--The fusion concerts performed by the Iranian ensemble Hamsaz and Indian tabla virtuoso Darshan Anand in Tehran in 2011 will be released on DVDs this summer. “Those were typically dialogues between Iranian and Indian music,” Hamsaz leader and setar virtuoso Masud Sho’ari told the Persian service of MNA on Saturday. “We also used classical guitar in some pieces during the concerts,” he added. Sho’ari’s son, Sina, played guitar and oud in the concerts, which were performed at Tehran’s Niavaran Cultural Center on August 11 and 12, 2011. The repertoire of the groups included the five selections “Dialogue”, “The Sun”, “A New Meeting”, “The Song of Night” and “Reconciliation”. Hamsaz and Anand gave concerts during the 27th Fajr International Music Festival in Tehran in February 2012. They also collaborated on the album “In the Shadow of the Wind”, a fusion of Iranian, Indian and Western music, in 2007. Anand previously accompanied Iranian pop singer and guitarist Dariush Khajenuri during several performances.
