Iranian movie “Gold and Copper” wins top prize at Religion Today filmfest

TEHRAN,Oct.29(MNA) -- The movie “Gold and Copper” by Homayoun As’adian won the top prize of the Religion Today Film Festival, which was held from October 14 to 26. The movie won the “In the Spirit of Faith Award” of the festival and received a special prize from the SIGNIS jury (World Catholic Association for Communication). The film narrates the life of Seyyed Reza, a young clergyman who travels to Tehran in order to complete his education. His wife’s diagnosis with multiple sclerosis changes his life and as he loves his wife, he is forced to leave his theological studies and take care of his wife and two babies. The jury described the film as the story of man who attains great spiritual heights through his love, hope and faith. In their view, “Gold and Copper” manifests how everyday problems pave the way for spirituality. The film shows that faith in God not only can be found in books and academies but also in life and love, the SIGNIS jury announced. Another Iranian film “Halimeh” by Tahereh Hassanzadeh was awarded with the Women and Religions Award by the festival. The film narrates the life of Halimah Al-Sa’deya, the foster-mother and wet-nurse of Prophet Muhammad (S). The festival, which was on the theme of “Poverty: Problem or Opportunity?” was held in different regions and provinces of Italy, namely Trento, Rome, Milan, Bolzano and Nomadelfia. Alireza Amini’s “A Petition for Allah”, Fima Emami’s “Moonlight on the Stage”, Vahid Hajiluii’s “Where Is Fatemeh’s House?” and Mehdi Yarmohamadi’s “Seven Regards” went on screen at the Rites and Beliefs section of the festival. The Iranian films “Alzheimer” by Ahmadreza Motamedi, “On Foot” by Fereydoun Hasanpur, “The Road Is Closed” by Vahid Hajiluii, “Everybody’s in Love Here!” by Shahram Mirab-Aqdam were screened at the Fraternity section of the gala. The “Poverty. Problem or Opportunity?” section of the gala screened Homayun Asadian’s “Gold and Copper”, Babak Nabizadeh’s “Empty Handed But Standing Strong”, Dariush Qaribzadeh’s “Sokar” and Zohreh Zamani’s “The Barefoot Leader”. “Halimeh” by Tahereh Hassanzadeh competed in the Women and Religions section of the festival and the Portraits section of the event screened “Taftan” by Hushang Mirzaii.
