Iranian publisher to honor winner of Goethe Medal 2013

TEHRAN,Oct.30(MNA) – Iran’s Ofoq Publication will hold a commemoration ceremony for the Iranian winner of the Goethe Medal 2013, Seyyed Mahmud Hosseinizad, during a ceremony on October 31at Masudieh Edifice, a Qajar era monument in Tehran. Hosseinizad received a Goethe Medal in Berlin on August 28 for his contributions to German literature in Iran. “He levels the way of words with discretion and sensitivity, and enables cultural and personal encounters that awaken and intensify mutual understanding between people in Iran and in Germany,” said the Goethe Medal jury about Hosseinizad. Hosseinzad is the translator of “Alice” by Judith Hermann, “Agnes” by Peter Stamm, and “In My Brother’s Shadow” by Uwe Timm, all of which were published by Ofoq. Since 2000, Hosseinizad has translated several books by German authors including Judith Hermann, lngo Schulze, Uwe Timm, Peter Stamm and Julia Franck. Masudieh Edifice is located on Ekbatan St., off Mellat Ave. near Baharestan Square.
